sheer lingerie

According to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary, the obsolete meaning of the word “sheer” meant “bright, shining”; its roots came from Old Norse, and Old and Middle English, and their versions of the word shine.

In the current vernacular, “sheer” means of very thin or transparent texture, or diaphanous, which is more descriptive.  But the obsolete meaning still applies as well, because your natural beauty shines through in sheer lingerie.  Whether it’s a cami, mini dress, nightgown, robe, teddy, babydoll, bustier or body stocking, sheer lingerie will make you look and feel like a queen.

teddy lingerie

A traditional teddy is a piece of lingerie that resembles a sleeveless bodysuit, combining a camisole and panty in one piece.  Teddy lingerie is typically looser and sheerer than a bodysuit and is usually designed to slip off the shoulders with ease and show off the visual appeal of the wearer’s figure.   It can be worn with or without a bra, and some teddies include a built-in bra to eliminate any doubt.

Some say Madonna’s popularity and fashion sense in the 1980s is the root of the teddy’s popularity, since fashion catwalks began to be filled with teddies as outerwear after her meteoric rise.  The fashion trend continued well into the 1990s and is still seen today, particularly among female entertainment personalities.
